Collection: Unmasked

Unplanned. Spontaneous. In the flow. A surprise every time.

When I set out to make a face, there is no plan. There is heavy-weight paper, acrylic inks and paint, a dip pen and black ink, handmade collage papers, and whatever I'm bringing that day. Colors are thrown down, marks are made, the face emerges, usually eyes first. The process continues, a call and response between me and the page.  Born in pure abstraction, whimsical and macabre, the people come through raw, distorted, and resonant. The words come no sooner than halfway through, unforeseen. When it’s over, I feel little or no judgement towards the finished piece - the itty bitty shitty committee in my head falls silent. It is what it is, and who am I to interfere.
